An Gorta Mor Memorial Mass | 05/25/2010

The annual An Gorta Mor (Famine) Memorial Mass took place on May 16th at St Joseph’s Shrine, located on in the Irish Hills District of Lenawee County.  After Mass a short ceremony was held at Michigan’s only An Gorta Mor Monument .  There was a wreath laying ceremony at the Monument led by the St. Patrick’s Division.  Pictured here are AOH State Board President John McInerney and Walsh Division Brother Jim O’Kelly.

Walsh Division Daughters Selected to Maid of Erin Court | 03/01/2010

The AOH-Walsh division is proud to announce that two of our “Division Daughters” placed in the 2010 Maid of Erin Pageant. Haley Cavanaugh (daughter of AOH Walsh Division member Sean P. Cavanaugh and LAOH Rose Kennedy Division member Shelly Cavanaugh) won 1st Runner-up and Kayleigh Kavanagh (daughter of AOH Walsh Division member the Hon. Sean P. Kavanagh) won 2nd Runner Up. Congratulations to both of these young ladies. The AOH Walsh and LAOH Rose Kennedy Divisions are very proud of you both. The AOH would also like to extend their congratulations to Margaret Clark, the 2010 Maid of Erin.

Irish Heritage Day/St. Patrick’s Day Kickoff Party | 02/27/2010

This Saturday, March 6th, the Hibernians will be presenting a plethora of events to kick off the St. Patrick’s Day season.   The Rose Kennedy Division of the LAOH will be presenting their annual Irish Heritage Day. Activities Include: Irish Soda Bread Demonstration, Genealogy, Aran Knitting, Ceili/Step Dancers, Spinning Wheel Demonstration, Harp Demonstration, The Irish Baker(s), Irish Language Lesson, Irish Music, the Legend of Finn McCoul and Storytelling. Well wrap up the afternoon with a Catholic Mass @ 4:30 with Fr. Dan O’Sullivan.

Later in the evening, we’ll kick things up a notch with our St. Patrick’s Day Kickoff Party starting at 7p.m. A modest donation ($12 in advance, $15 at the door) gains you food, 1 hr of open bar, drink specials and music by Kevin Murphy and the AOH’s Traditional Irish Music Session.
